## Review summary

Star Traders: Frontiers is praised for its deep, open-ended RPG, lore, and flexible playstyles, plus offline play and a one-time price with ongoing updates. Many players enjoy the freedom to manage crews, influence factions, and replay with different paths. However, the game suffers from RNG-heavy progression that can waste time and stall progress, a cramped and hard-to-read UI, a steep learning curve without tutorials, and combat balance issues. Some also note platform update lag and uneven long-term support. Overall, strong depth and replay value clash with usability and RNG frustrations.

### Pros

- Deep, open-ended RPG with rich lore and multiple playstyles.
- High replay value thanks to varied gameplay, stories, and paths.
- No ads, one-time purchase, with ongoing free updates from a small dev team.
- Strong offline play and self-contained experience (no network needed).
- Engaging crew/officer management and world-building details that make you feel like you’re a space captain.

### Cons

- RNG-driven progression leads to early slog and can lock you out of the main story for long periods.
- Cramped UI with tiny, hard-to-read elements and misclick risk; not always fullscreen on some devices.
- Steep learning curve due to lack of tutorials and dense, unexplained mechanics.
- Combat balance issues, especially with crew vs ship battles; some roles don’t function as expected.
- Platform/update lag and cross-platform support concerns (Apple version behind and worry about ongoing support).
