## Description

iVim is an open-source Vim editor for iOS that brings powerful editing to mobile devices. It supports font management (import custom fonts and ligatures), an extended keyboard with more keys, and multistage input for languages like Chinese and Japanese.

Sharing and file access are integrated: import/export via the share extension, and document picker access to iCloud Drive or document providers. The app also offers terminal access, external commands with scripting in Python and Lua, a plugins manager (iplug), and a native version-control workflow. An optional iVim Pro subscription unlocks additional features and a guaranteed workflow for collaborative editing. Terms of Use and Privacy Policy are available to review.

## Review summary

iVim on iOS offers a powerful, plugin-rich Vim experience with strong Files/app integration and good external-keyboard support. Reviews praise its near-desktop capabilities, though users frequently cite paywalls for pro features, paste reliability issues, and iOS sandbox limitations that hinder opening files and mapping keys on mobile keyboards. Overall, it’s a top-tier Vim tool for iPad/iPhone when you’re willing to pay for full power and adapt to mobile constraints.

### Pros

- Extremely feature-rich Vim port on iOS with broad plugin support and Vimscript compatibility.
- Excellent hardware keyboard integration, bringing near-desktop editing on iPad.
- Strong iOS/file-system integration, including Files.app support and default editor capability.
- Active development with ongoing feature updates and a capable plugin manager.

### Cons

- Costly subscription for Pro features and Git integration.
- Clipboard/paste reliability issues; Command-V sometimes fails or behaves inconsistently.
- On-screen keyboard hinders workflow and can obscure the command line; external keyboard is often required.
- iOS sandbox/file-system limitations make opening/editing existing files less seamless.
- Esc mapping and certain Vim shortcuts are not easily accessible on mobile keyboards.
