Split Screen for Browser

You can easily split and separate tabs, split interface layout, and resize tabs by columns and rows. Multi-monitor support

Split Screen for Browser is a powerful Chrome extension that lets you efficiently manage multiple browser tabs by splitting and resizing them using customizable layouts. It supports arranging tabs into rows and columns, drag-and-drop layout sorting, and resizing only highlighted tabs. Keyboard shortcuts enable quick resizing without opening the interface. The extension even supports multi-monitor setups, letting you select displays individually for tab placement. Features such as left/right alignment, empty tab creation, and an undo function provide full control over your browser workspace.

The user-friendly interface displays favicons of tabs in selected layouts, helping you preview changes before applying them. This tool is ideal for users juggling many tabs who want to boost productivity by organizing browser windows efficiently. Note that this extension is developed independently and is not affiliated with Microsoft, though it builds on open-source code contributed under GPL license.

User reviews

Users appreciate the add-on's ability to organize multiple browser windows across monitors, making multitasking easier. However, a common issue is that it does not resize tabs within the browser but splits them into separate windows instead. Some consider it redundant since Windows offers similar window splitting features. There are also complaints about its usability after updates and the lack of tab size management inside Edge itself.
Pros
  • Allows users to arrange and view multiple browser windows simultaneously, which is useful for multitasking (e.g., monitoring stocks).
  • Supports multiple monitors and gives options to choose window size and placement.
  • Provides an easier way to split workspace compared to manual methods.
  • Resolves user needs for managing browser windows and workspaces efficiently.
Cons
  • Does not resize the tabs within the browser but only splits windows on the screen.
  • Some users find it redundant as similar functionality is available via built-in Windows features.
  • It does not address the need for minimum tab size within Edge, which some users desire for better tab management.
  • Some users feel the extension is inconvenient or difficult to use after updates.
Recent reviews
It does not resize the tabs, it splits them by opening them on the screen. Microsoft recommended this extension to manage tab size on Edge, but evidently they didn't understand that Edge users want to have a minimum tab size so that many open tabs don't take the form of postage stamps. Firefox and Chrome can do that. Edge must be able to do it, too, because vertical tabs are so inconvenient, and Microsoft itself, which sells hardware with limited screen sizes, such as the Surface Pro, should understand this. This is the same **** extension: https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/split-screen-for-browser/hpnpmdgbdmicoijabpdhopgnkgcelepi?hl=en-US Redundant, does absolutely nothing over built-in Windows 11 (and 10) feature.

A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Split Screen for Browser does not require any sensitive permissions.
