Drivers use this app to broadcast their bus's real-time location so that parents and school staff always know exactly where the bus is and when it will arrive.

WHO THIS APP IS FOR
This app is built exclusively for bus drivers employed by or contracted to a school using BusTrack. It is not a general public transit app and has no public sign-up. Every driver receives a school code and personal login credentials from their school's administration before they can use the app.

HOW IT WORKS
1. On first launch, the driver enters their school's unique code. The app then loads that school's name, logo, and colors from BusTrack's servers.
2. The driver signs in with the email and password provided by their school.
3. Before starting a route, the driver sees which bus is assigned to them.
4. The driver taps "Start Route." From that moment, the app reads the device's GPS location and transmits it to BusTrack's servers in real time, roughly every 30 seconds or 50 meters of movement, whichever comes first.
5. Parents (in the separate BusTrack parent app) and school staff (in the BusTrack admin dashboard) see the bus moving live on a map, along with an estimated arrival time calculated from the bus's current position and distance to each stop.
6. If the driver is running late, they can report a delay with a reason directly from the app; this is shown to parents and the school immediately.
7. The driver taps "End Route" when finished, which stops location broadcasting.

WHY THE APP REQUESTS BACKGROUND LOCATION ACCESS
Drivers typically mount a phone or tablet on the dashboard and do not keep the app in the foreground the entire trip. Background location access lets the app keep transmitting the bus's position even if the driver's screen locks or they briefly switch to another app, so that parents' live tracking does not silently stop mid-route. Location is only transmitted while a route is actively started by the driver; the app does not track or transmit location at any other time.
