Clinical Management of Survivors Module

The Clinical Management of Survivors of Sexual Violence course is a comprehensive, evidence-based training program designed for healthcare providers, humanitarian workers, and other professionals involved in the care of individuals affected by sexual violence.

This module equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to deliver timely, compassionate, and holistic care to survivors while adhering to medical ethics, legal requirements, and international best practices. It emphasizes a survivor-centered approach that prioritizes safety, confidentiality, dignity, and informed consent at every stage of care.

Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Understand the physical, psychological, and social consequences of sexual violence.

Apply international guidelines and national protocols for the clinical management of sexual violence cases.

Provide comprehensive medical care, including treatment of injuries, prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV, and emergency contraception.

Document findings accurately and sensitively to support both medical follow-up and legal processes.

Deliver trauma-informed, non-judgmental communication to support survivors’ recovery.

Recognize and address the unique needs of vulnerable groups, including children, adolescents, persons with disabilities, and individuals in humanitarian crisis settings.
