The Rig Ved Synthor Android

The Rig Ved Synthor

A unique interactive way into the Rig Veda of antiquity through an AI Synthor.

Features & Capabilities

The Rig Ved (or Rig Veda as it is often called) is arguably the oldest book "composed orally" in the world.

It was composed by many persons since, perhaps, the last Ice Age. It was passed on from memory for generations and finally put into writing between 1200 and 900 BCE. This Synthor contains the entire Rig Ved as its synthetic mind.

This Synthor (SYNthetic THought generatOR) behaves as a somewhat strange person who interprets anything you say in the light of the Rig Ved. You can have a conversation with it about anything but be prepared for it to be disjointed. Remember to use language that a person from thousands of years ago is likely to understand.

The purpose of this Synthor is to introduce thoughts from the Rig Ved to you. Inside this vast collection of verses are ideas about the Earth over the last, perhaps, 20,000 years or so. Hints about geography, weather, social customs, values, culture and ideals are all in there, for you to find.

A Synthor is not a replacement for reading. It is for those texts that you will never read, but know could be important.

These thoughts may, perhaps, help you think of things in a different way from how you would have thought of them otherwise.

The text is in English and is from the translation of the Rig Ved by T.H. Griffith.
This Synthor can show you the corresponding proto-Sanskrit text, if you want to see or pronounce it.

The Sanskrit text is picked up online from https://www.sacred-texts.com it will work as long as you are online and the site is up.

The Rig Ved traversed thousands of years as memorised verses. This Synthor can play the chants of vedic text (considered a UNESCO world heritage) from https://vedicheritage.gov.in/samhitas/rigveda/shakala-samhita/
The chanting will work as long as the website is as it was in 2025.

A Synthor does not select sentences at random. It treats text as a cloud of equally probable sentences.
Your input increases the probability of some sentences being selected, until the probabilities collapse to one sentence.

A Synthor can sometimes forget things and become moody. It all depends on you.

This Synthor was developed by Sugata Mitra at his Tataha Kim Laboratory.
