## Description

Four columns of ink on squared paper, and a cloth appears. That is the quiet magic of a weaving draft — the shorthand handloom weavers have used for four centuries to hold a pattern in a single page. Selvedge opens that page for you: threading across the top, tie-up in the corner, treadling down the side, and the drawdown blooming in the middle square by square. Nothing here is decoration; every cell you touch is a real thread crossing a real thread, exactly as it would happen on a four-shaft loom.<br><br>Set the threading, knot the tie-up, walk the treadling, and the cloth draws itself while the bench reports honest numbers: the longest float in the weave, the balance of warp face against weft face, the sett your yarn is asking for, and a warning when a float grows too long to wear. Beside the bench sits a library of classic weaves with their drafts and their stories, a room of workshop history from the Spitalfields garrets to the Jacquard cards of Lyon, and a Cloth Log where your own woven yardage is kept with fibre, sett and finished measurements. Weave, read, record — the book stays with you, offline and unhurried.
