## Description

UDP Monitor is a user-friendly Chrome extension designed for monitoring, sending, and receiving UDP packets between your device and a remote host. It features a chat-like interface where you can enter the remote IP and port to send messages and configure the receiving port for listening. With extensive configurability, UDP Monitor supports controlling packet buffer size, notifications, message display in Natural Language, HEX, or ASCII, and the ability to ignore specific IPs or program autoresponses.

This tool also allows auto-start on launch, clocked auto-send messages, and interaction with external applications via Broadcast Intents. Users can save and load multiple configuration profiles, making it ideal for network developers and users monitoring UDP communications. Note that a WiFi or mobile data connection is required for operation. UDP Monitor provides a handy, lightweight alternative for UDP communication monitoring but is not a replacement for full traffic analyzers like Wireshark.

## Review summary

UDP Monitor is a simple, free, and effective app for sending UDP messages and testing servers, appreciated for its core functionality and ease of use. However, multiple users report notification failures, especially on newer Android versions, and request a foreground service to maintain constant background operation. Other common requests include the ability to save message logs and improvements in the user interface like correct timestamps and more flexible display options. Despite a few bugs and missing features, it remains a valuable tool for UDP communication and testing.

### Pros

- Allows sending raw text commands to servers for custom processing.
- Simple, reliable, and works smoothly as designed.
- Free to use with effective UDP communication capabilities.
- Works well in the background (not fully closed), providing notifications.
- Useful testing tool for UDP servers.

### Cons

- No notifications or notifications stop working especially on newer Android versions.
- Lacks a foreground service to keep the app running continuously in the background.
- No way to save or export message streams; only single message copy is available.
- User interface issues like incorrect timestamp and fixed IP/Port labels cluttering the screen.
- Does not always respect local port settings when sending packets in some Android versions.
