## Description

What's that mountain? PeakNav tells you. Point your phone at the horizon and the peaks in front of you are named on screen, with their elevation. Open a photo and PeakNav matches its skyline to the terrain and labels every summit in the picture.

PeakNav is a 3D map of every mountain on Earth, with peak names, heights, trails, huts and a real sky. It is free, open source, and works offline.

IDENTIFY THE PEAKS AROUND YOU

• Hold up your phone: the compass and gyroscope turn the 3D view with you, and mountain names and elevations appear where the real peaks are.
• Works anywhere on the planet, from the Alps and the Dolomites to the Rockies, the Himalaya, the Andes and New Zealand.

NAME THE MOUNTAINS IN YOUR PHOTOS

• Take a picture in the app or open one from your gallery.
• PeakNav goes to where the photo was taken, finds which way it faces by matching the skyline to the terrain, and tags the summits it shows.
• Not quite right? Double-tap a summit to pin it, then line up the rest by hand.
• Fade the 3D terrain over your photo, from ridge outlines only to fully opaque, to check every ridge against the real thing.
• Share as JPEG or PNG. Position, altitude, direction and field of view are saved in the EXIF, so the photo lines up again when you reopen it.

EXPLORE MOUNTAINS IN 3D

• Satellite imagery draped over a global elevation model: see a mountain from the valley floor, from the summit, or from the air.
• Labels for peaks, mountain ranges, glaciers, lakes, islands and alpine huts.
• Footpaths, roads and rivers from OpenStreetMap projected onto the slopes, so you can see where a trail really goes before you hike it.
• Tap any point to fly there, or orbit a summit to see it from every side.

PLAN AND RELIVE YOUR HIKES

• Load a GPX track and follow the route through the 3D terrain, whether it's a hike you're planning or one you've already done.
• Search towns and peaks by name in any language ("Venezia" and "Venice" both work), or enter coordinates directly.

A REAL SKY

• The sun, the moon with its current phase, and the stars are drawn at their true positions for your location and time.
• Compass points on the horizon and an optional sky map with an astronomical grid.

WORKS OFFLINE

• Download terrain and map data for the areas you need. They stay on your device, so peak identification keeps working on the ridge with no signal.

WHO IT'S FOR

Hikers, mountaineers, ski tourers, trail runners, landscape photographers, and anyone who has looked at a skyline and wondered which summit is which.

FREE AND OPEN SOURCE

PeakNav is developed by a single independent developer and released under the GNU GPL v3. It is available in seven languages, and also runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.
