## Description

Lexo is a private AI keyboard for Android. Voice typing and next-word prediction both run entirely on device, so the keyboard keeps working with no internet connection, in airplane mode, and anywhere the signal drops.

Cloud keyboards are thin clients: what you type travels to a server, a model there decides what you meant, and the answer travels back. Lexo puts the models on your phone instead. A speech recognizer and a small language model download once, then live in the app's private storage. Nothing you type or say is uploaded to be processed. No server in the loop when you type, no sign-up, no ads.

Offline voice typing
- Speak instead of typing, anywhere a keyboard works
- Speech to text runs locally; no audio is ever uploaded
- Optional cleanup adds punctuation, capitalization and filler removal, on the phone (off by default)
- Dictation spells names and unusual words the way you have typed them before
- English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Swedish, Polish and Turkish
- Works with no internet connection, including airplane mode

On-device AI suggestions
- A local language model predicts your next word and the phrase likely to follow
- It learns how you actually write: your names, your slang, your shortcuts
- Type faster by tapping a whole word instead of spelling it out
- A personal dictionary that lives only on your phone and is never uploaded
- Instant, because nothing waits on a network round trip

Why local AI changes the typing experience
- No latency floor. Suggestions do not wait on a round trip, so the strip keeps up with a fast thumb.
- No dead zones. A plane, a basement, a tunnel, a prepaid SIM with no data left: offline AI behaves the same everywhere.
- No quiet uploads. Privacy here is a property of where the model runs, not a setting you switch on.

Private because of how it is built
- Once setup is done, typing and dictating generate no network traffic. Check it yourself with a network monitor.
- Internet access is used for the one-time model download, Google Play billing, and crash reports, which stay off unless you turn them on in Settings.
- The permission list is short: microphone for dictation, vibration for key feedback, notifications for download progress, plus internet and network state.
- No keystroke logging, no typed text in analytics, no profile built from what you write.

Everything else you expect from a keyboard
- Quick switching between languages and layouts
- Emoji keyboard and clipboard history
- Light and dark themes with automatic day and night switching
- One-handed mode for larger phones
- Customizable key sounds, vibration, and gestures

Pricing, and what happens after the trial
Lexo is a paid keyboard. Every install starts with a 30-day Premium trial covering everything the on-device models power: offline voice typing, next-word prediction, the suggestion strip and autocorrect, and glide typing (swipe to write a word). After that those features stop until you buy Premium: a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Without Premium the keyboard still types: layouts, language switching, emoji, clipboard history, themes, one-handed mode and gestures. No ads either way.

About the first-run download
Setting up downloads the typing model for your language over Wi-Fi, about 430 MB. Voice typing downloads its speech model separately, the first time you use the microphone, and each extra language adds its own. App updates do not re-download any of it.

Getting started
Enable Lexo in your phone's keyboard settings, choose a language, and let the models download over Wi-Fi. After that the keyboard works the same in every app, online or off.

Built on the open-source FlorisBoard project, with open-weight models: SmolLM2, Qwen2.5 and KB-Whisper (Apache-2.0), a Turkish GPT-2 fine-tune (MIT), Gemma (Gemma Terms of Use) and NVIDIA Parakeet (CC-BY-4.0). Lexo is in active development and feedback shapes what comes next.

Questions, bug reports, feature requests: reddit.com/r/lexokeyboard.
