英単語ナビ Android

英単語ナビ

English Vocabulary Navi is an app that allows you to search for words by dividing them into roots, suffixes, prefixes, etc. You can learn English words by navigating the ocean of English words.

Features & Capabilities

This "easy learning app" combines the familiar "subscription" features of tea-team-steam-stream and scream-scratch, as well as the intermediate level, to rapidly improve your vocabulary. It supports everyone from elementary school students to adults with a new learning style that doesn't rely on memorization or perseverance.

Developed in collaboration with an NPO dedicated to supporting those with learning difficulties and with the input of those affected, this app is packed with features that make it easy to read and learn, even for those with dyslexia (difficulty reading and writing).

[App Features]
◎ When you enter a word, it analyzes it from the perspectives of sound symbolism, phonics, and etymology (the origin of the word). It navigates you to words with common elements, such as "stream" and "scream" or "scratch," encouraging you to notice them and helping you improve your vocabulary.
◎ Consideration for dyslexia and learning support
We use an easy-to-read font. We've also taken into consideration the contrast and layout to enhance the legibility of the text.

[How to Use]
1. Enter a word you're interested in, such as a word from a textbook or a word listed as "Word of the Day" in the app.

2. For example, if you enter "stream" in the "Beginner/Beginner Level" section, the following related "tags" will appear:
・"str_stretch" - "Phonetic symbol: phonestheme"
・"eam" - Diphthong pronounced like "ee" + m
・"ea_ee" - Diphthong pronounced like "ee"

3. Tap a tag to display a list of words that share common elements from the list.
・"str_Stretch"... stretch: to stretch / strong: strong / string: string, thread, etc.
・"eam"... beam: engagement, beam / stream: stream, flow / dream: dream, dreaming, etc.
・"ea_Ee"... heat: heat, to heat / deal: to distribute / read: to read, etc.

◆ Sound symbolism
Sound symbolism refers to the association of the sound of a language with a specific image or meaning. For example, "str" evokes "stretch," "tension," and "strength," while "scr" evokes connotations similar to onomatopoeic words like "crunch" and "squeak."

◆ Phonics
There are also some patterns between English words and their spellings. For example, the "ea" in words like "stream" and "beam" is pronounced like "ee." However, the "ea" in words like "great" and "break" is an exception, being pronounced like "ei," but these are searched for separately in this app.

◆ Etymology (Word Origin)
Many English words are made up of a root (stem) and a prefix or suffix. For example, the word "import" can be broken down into the prefix "im" and the root (stem) "port" to understand its meaning from its origins.

Import: To import = "in" (im) + "port" (port)
Export: To export = "out" (ex) + "port" (port)
Portable: To be portable = "carry" (port) + "table" (table)

[Related Information]
The learning method used in this app is based on the "RISE English Course English Vocabulary Calendar."
In addition to the above features, we plan to add typing practice and other features in the future.

[Project Members]
This app was developed in collaboration with the following two organizations, with careful consideration given to the needs of those involved.

[Revolve School Education Research Institute, NPO]
Since founding Rise Gakuen (now Musubi Tsukuba Rise Gakuen) in November 2000, we have been working to support the learning of junior and senior high school students experiencing school refusal or LD (Learning Disabilities/Differences). Our ever-improving teaching materials have been featured on the website of the National Institute of Special Needs Education, as well as on NHK and in specialist magazines.

[Aiyomi Voluntary Organization]
This student organization aims to build bridges to a new society. Since 2024, we have been primarily engaged in app development, hardware research, and information exchange with people with dyslexia.
Our goal is to "reduce the daily learning burden and create an environment that does not erode motivation for learning," as people with dyslexia envision.
