REACT - Snake

REACT-Snake (Rapid Envenomation Algorithm for Clinical Treatment) is an innovative mobile application for healthcare professionals dealing with snakebite cases in sub-Saharan Africa. Completely free, usable offline, and designed with the constraints of the field in mind, it provides rapid and reliable clinical support, from patient intake to discharge from the healthcare facility.

Developed by specialists from the Institut Pasteur and the IRD, with the collaboration of Beninese and Cameroonian professionals, REACT-Snake offers a decision-support algorithm adapted to the diversity of local clinical situations. The user is guided step by step to identify symptoms of envenomation and obtain treatment recommendations based on the observed clinical signs.

Due to the linguistic challenges in a region with over 1,500 languages, the application favors a strong visual approach: its medical content is fully illustrated, making the information understandable to all healthcare professionals, regardless of their level of specialization or language spoken.

REACT-Snake also incorporates an innovative information sharing feature: at the end of treatment, a summary sheet generated by the application can be quickly shared via a QR code. This feature facilitates continuity of care between different professionals, particularly during on-call shifts, and reduces the risk of losing essential data. The application will also indicate the appropriate times to clinically reassess your patient and guide the adaptation of their care.

To respect confidentiality, REACT-Snake does not collect any personal data. Its goal is to provide immediate, reliable clinical assistance, compliant with best practices in envenomation care.
