Review summary

Townsmen is a popular medieval city building game praised for its engaging gameplay, offline mode, and reasonable purchase options to remove ads. Players enjoy its strategy and storyline. However, frequent and intrusive ads, tedious building repair mechanics, and occasional glitches like disappearing inventory hinder user experience. While the game has improved over the years, repair tasks and ads remain major frustrations. Overall, it's a fun and strategic casual game with room for improvement in ad management and gameplay mechanics.

  • Offline play availability, allowing for gaming without internet.
  • Reasonable one-time purchase option to remove ads and gain faster speed-ups.
  • Graphics are simple but appealing and controls become intuitive over time.
  • Frequent updates and continuous improvements over years, adding depth and content.
Cons
  • Excessive and intrusive advertisements, including pop-up ads and ad bars shrinking gameplay visibility.
  • Annoying frequent building repairs required, which become tedious and time-consuming.
  • Issues with the in-game economy, such as disappearing inventory items and cheating impressions.
  • Repair mechanics can be overbearing, leading to repetitive gameplay focused on fixing buildings.
  • Inconsistent reward system for watching ads, causing frustration with unearned prestige or benefits.

Looks like the free prestige's been fixed. Thanks! I like this game. It's similar to AoE. Main thing: It cheats. I know for a fact I just made 10 gold bars. They're nowhere in my inventory now. This happens pretty often if you pay attention. I've gotten to the point in the game where I only need xp points to get to the next level. My inventory disapearing makes it impossible to advance to the next level. Makes me want to uninstall and be done with the game.

I really enjoy the game, but it would be awesome if there was an option to make buildings disappear (for doing decorations, roads, etc). Edit: Most of the time, when I watch an ad for prestige, it doesn't reward me at all. It didn't do this before, but it just started.

Always enjoyed this game, it's beautiful and unique, just add larger maps and increase townie sizes into a more realistic view, things a evolving, your game should too. Should have given 5 star except the new introduction of pop up ads just made me start hating the game. You can remove pop up ads and leave ads to make the in game currency and that's ok. Pop up ads are not acceptable

I used to play this when mobile games first came out. It was a pretty cool little casual medieval city builder. Edit: so I now realize you can turn the bandits off almost completely. I've been playing the game and it does have some good aspects. However, it is still a mobile, monetized game and I just really dislike the way it is monetized. A small fee to remove ads is reasonable. But then they also make you pay for unlimited speed ups, which I did. Haha they won't even give me room to

It's a fun game at first, gets boring really fast. I payed the 7 bucks for no ads and fast forward. That's a cup of coffee at Starbucks so really not a big deal at all when it comes to that. Quests give plenty of rewards and no need to watch ads. However. It's a super easy game, no challenge to it, and just gets boring really quickly. They could use a boost like adding different looking buildings when you level them up or something.

Fun City Build. My only upset is the constant notification beep every two seconds. I would love to listen to the sounds of the game without it. I've tried turning the notification option off, and it still beeps. It's fairly irritating. Otherwise, the game is fun and can be challenging in a brain teaser sort of way. I find myself coming back to it every few years.

Love that it can be played offline! The ads are super annoying so play the game enough to know you like it, then pay the $3 to get rid of them. Graphics are pretty simple, but good. Controls could be better, but once you're used to them, they become second nature. Strategy and storyline are perfect. It is time consuming, but you can set it aside and pick it back up whenever.

Overall a fun little game. But annoyingly the screen has a large ad bar at the top AND it stops the game to show full screen ads every couple of minutes. I can understand one or the other but both diminishes the enjoyment of the game. I would like to get rid of the bar that shrinks my visibility of the town I'm working on.

This game is AWESOME, just what I was looking for! You can build an amazing town, trade, complete quests, and then you can play military scenarios where you can defend your village. You can complete scenarios, or you can play the creative sandbox mode. Guess what? It's all offline, and free except for the pointless in app purchases.

Love this game. I've installed it several times before, and purchased the ad removal, but now it won't let me remove ads. No option to reload old purchase and won't even let me repurchase it. Not happy... EDIT: After trying it on a couple of devices over time, I finally got my previous purchases to show back up. Loving this game again!
