## Description

Optiwatt finds local utility programs that pay you to use smart home devices — like EVs, chargers (Tesla, Ford, ChargePoint and more) and smart thermostats (Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell). It automates charging and temperature control using real utility rates and renewable-availability data so you shift energy use to lower-cost, cleaner hours without lifting a finger. Visualize per-charge costs, gas savings and battery efficiency, prioritize comfort with advanced scheduling and overrides, and join reward programs to earn payouts via Venmo, PayPal, ACH, gift cards, or charity.

No extra hardware is required — devices connect directly. Optiwatt supports many EVs and chargers and was the first official Tesla-connected scheduler. Use local rate and grid data to reduce peak demand, lower bills, and increase clean energy use while protecting your schedule and emergency needs. ## Review summary

User reviews highlight that Optiwatt provides valuable insights and cost savings by scheduling EV charging based on utility rates, especially for Tesla vehicles. However, common issues include inaccurate or delayed data, connectivity problems with some cars and chargers, limited user control over charging schedules, and occasional errors in utility rate information. Despite these drawbacks, users appreciate the app's potential to reduce charging costs and its free availability, though improvements are needed in reliability, compatibility, and user experience.

### Pros

- Provides insights into electrical usage, cost, and savings based on actual utility rates.
- Allows scheduling of EV charging to optimize for low electricity rates and clean energy use.
- Good analytics and estimated cost calculations for charging.
- Works well with Tesla vehicles for managing charging schedules and preconditioning.
- Free to use and can significantly reduce EV charging costs when properly utilized.

### Cons

- Inaccurate or delayed data reporting such as incorrect charge status, odometer readings, and cost calculations.
- Problems with integration or connectivity with some EV brands (e.g., Volvo) and chargers.
- Charging schedule control is limited; app sometimes starts or stops charging unexpectedly or at undesired times.
- Rate plan data may be incorrect or hard to enter manually leading to unexpected charging at high cost periods.
- App user interface issues including syncing problems and usability on certain devices (e.g., foldables).
