📖 About Maa Tarini & the Temple:
The sacred story of Maa Tarini dates back to the 15th century. According to legend, the deity was installed in 1480 by Sri Gobinda Bhanjadeo, the then ruler of Keonjhar. During the famous “Kanchi War,” Sri Gobinda Bhanja served as a commander under King Purusottam Dev of Puri and played a crucial role in the victory. As a reward, he requested Maa Tarini to be brought to Keonjhar. Maa agreed on one condition – that Gobinda Bhanja should not look back while she followed. However, near the forests of Ghatgaon, he turned back, and Maa manifested herself there as a stone. Since then, Ghatgaon has been her permanent abode.
