WHAT IT WORKS OUT

Lumber calculator: how many pieces a framing run needs at any spacing on centre, the total linear feet, and what it costs at your price per piece.

Board foot calculator: thickness, width, length and quantity into board feet. Hardwood is priced by the board foot and softwood is not, which is what makes the two hard to compare; this does the conversion.

Stud calculator: the studs, plates and nails a wall needs, including the extra studs at corners and intersections that a plain spacing calculation misses.

Joist calculator: floor and deck joists, plus the hangers and blocking that go with them.

Stair calculator: riser height, tread depth and stringer length to code, from the total rise and the run you have.

Deck calculator: deck boards, joists and screws, with the gap between boards already accounted for.

Railing calculator: balusters and posts for a railing that meets the four inch sphere rule.

Plywood calculator: sheets of plywood or OSB to cover an area, with your own waste allowance.

Subfloor calculator: sheets of subfloor plywood or OSB a room needs.

FEET AND INCHES, THE WAY YOU WRITE THEM

Type 8' 6 1/2" and it understands you. Type 8' 6, or 6 1/2, or 102, or 8.5: it understands those too, and it shows you the trade reading of whatever it parsed so you can see it got you right before you trust the answer. No converting fractions to decimals in your head, and no decimal answer you then have to convert back at the saw.
