CoinEater is a Chrome extension designed to protect users from cryptojacking by blocking unauthorized crypto-miners like Coinhive. Developed by the Institute of IT Security Research at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, CoinEater utilizes a research-based blocklist created from regular Internet-wide security scans of the Alexa Top 1 million websites. As part of the PriSAd research project, CoinEater addresses the ethical concerns of cryptojacking, distinguishing between legitimate and malicious mining.
