AviFauna Concepción is an educational and interactive mobile application that compiles information on the main bird species present in the city of Concepción and its natural surroundings. This app aims to highlight the value of local birdlife, promoting environmental education, birdwatching, and the connection between the community and urban nature.
The application contains a list of bird species in Concepción, which can be filtered according to different ecosystems and sites relevant for birdwatching, such as lagoons, wetlands, rivers, streams, forests, parks, and plazas.
In addition, iconic locations in the city are highlighted, each with its own specific list of birds, facilitating exploration in the field. These sites include Nonguén National Park, Laguna Redonda, the Biobío River, Cerro Caracol, the Paicaví Wetland, and other natural areas of high ecological value.
Each species has an information sheet that includes its description, size, and audiovisual material adapted to the observation environment. Depending on the species, the entry may include photographs of males, females, juveniles, and adults, or a single image or only sound recordings for species that are difficult to observe. Audio recordings of songs and vocalizations are also included, along with an educational video hosted on YouTube, facilitating learning and correct bird identification.

The application also allows users to record and share their own observations, associating them with different ecosystems and locations within the municipality, fostering citizen participation, community science, and appreciation of Concepción's natural heritage.
AviFauna Concepción is a project developed by the Municipal Program: Birds, Nature, and Well-being of the Environmental Department of the Municipality of Concepción, with the support of the Information Technology Department and the Public Relations and Press Department. The app was created by Juan Eduardo Machuca Montero, an Ecotourism Manager and bird specialist at the Directorate of the Environment, who has studied the birds of the city of Concepción and the Biobío Region for over 12 years. The project was made possible thanks to the collaboration of dozens of photographers and birdwatchers, who contributed their photographic and audio recordings.
