## Description

Every retro camera app hands you a hundred filters and a subscription to unlock them. Retro Camera hands you six cameras and takes the preview away.

You pick a camera off the shelf. It loads a roll with a fixed number of exposures. You shoot that roll without ever seeing a result. Then you develop it in the darkroom, and the frames come up one at a time.

That wait is the whole point. It is what made shooting film feel like something, and it is the one thing a filter cannot give you back.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Pick a camera. It loads a roll and you are committed to that look.
2. Shoot. The counter ticks down. No review thumbnail, no peeking.
3. Develop. Frames appear one by one, and you finally see what you got.

SIX CAMERAS, AND THEY ARE NOT SIX FILTERS

Sunny 400. Warm consumer colour negative. Golden skin, soft grain, forgiving.
Party 27. Single use cardboard with a hard flash. Blown highlights, green shadows, big grain.
Instant Wide. Square print with a white border. Milky blacks, cool cast, low contrast.
Chrome 100. Slide film. Deep blacks, loud colour, almost no grain. Nail the exposure.
Mono 400. Black and white with real bite. Heavy grain, hard contrast, nothing to hide behind.
Digicam 03. Early 2000s pocket digital. Cool cast, crunchy sharpening, noisy shadows, timestamp on.

Each one is a different machine, not a different tint. The single use camera makes you turn a wheel to advance the film before the shutter will fire again, and makes you wait for the flash to charge. The instant camera pushes a print out of the body while you watch. Only the digital one has a screen on its back. The others give you a viewfinder window, the way the real thing did.

BUILD YOUR OWN CAMERA

Start from any camera on the shelf and tune it with eighteen controls: warmth, tint, how the shadows and highlights pull apart, contrast, fade, which colours shout, grain, glow, bloom, vignette, light leaks, dust and sharpness. Pick the frame shape, the roll length, and whether it prints a white border or burns in a date stamp. A reference scene grades live as you move each slider, so you see the look before you commit to it.

Save it and it sits on the shelf behind the built in cameras, working exactly like one of them.

REAL FILM BEHAVIOUR

Developing is not a colour overlay. Each stock has its own response curve per channel, so a film can have cool shadows and warm highlights at once, which is most of what separates one emulsion from another. Highlights bleed red into what surrounds them, the way halation works on real film. Grain sits heaviest in the shadows and disappears in a blown highlight. Light leaks turn up when they feel like it, and every frame keeps its own seed, so the same frame always develops into the same photograph.

YOUR PHOTOS, ON YOUR PHONE

Frames go into your phone gallery in a Retro Camera album as soon as a roll finishes developing, and you can turn that off and keep them inside the app until you save them yourself. Rolls stay whole, the way they were shot, instead of collapsing into one endless feed.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

No subscription. No paywall. No account and no sign up. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, because there is no server to upload it to. It works with no connection at all.

Light and dark themes, chosen in settings, independent of your phone. The viewfinder and the photo viewer stay dark in both, because a light viewfinder fights the picture you are composing.

Shoot a roll. Wait for it. That is the app.
